Sing to the Lord a New Song
New Song!
Sing to the Lord a new song!
Several times the psalmist calls for us to sing a new song to the Lord.
Why not just sing a song or sing an old familiar song?
Why this emphasis on singing a new song to the Lord?
Was the psalmist engaged in worship wars: traditional music versus contemporary music?
I don’t think so.
What’s the significance of a new song?
The psalmist realized that a new song challenges us to new experiences with God and fresh expressions of our love for God.
My heart breaks when I hear adults refer to Christianity as a religion that they used to be part of when they were younger, but they no longer believe or no longer see it as an important part of their lives.
Somewhere their faith grew stale or other matters claimed priority for them.
The writer of Lamentations exclaimed, The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
Let us open our hearts to God’s love and discover afresh his mercy and compassion.
How will God reveal Himself new to you today?
Will it be in the reading of a Bible passage?
Or in taking time to observe the wonder of His creation?
Quite possibly it may be through an encounter or interaction with another person.
Or as you serve, as you give of your time and resources to care for another.
Perhaps, God may use someone to speak a fresh word of encouragement to you.
God desires to place a new song in your heart that will flow from your lips.
Will you sing a new song to the Lord today?
