It’s Covid’s Fault

It’s Covid’s fault.

Have you found yourself blaming something that doesn’t go right on Covid?

Or – when something goes awry, “Chalk that up to covid” or “Yep, it’s Covid 2020.”

Leigh Anne and I spent time last week in South Florida along with hurricane Eta.  Every November, we try to spend a week soaking up the sun and relaxing before the holiday rush.  This year we saw more rain and wind than sun.  For years to come, we will look back on last week as our 2020 Covid vacation.

I’m sure Tiger Woods will look back on this year’s Masters as a the Covid Masters.  He will especially consider hole 12 on Sunday as a Covid collapse. On national television, last year’s winner of the Masters, hit 3 balls into the water and eventually carded a 10 on a par 3 hole.

With the cold dreary days of winter ahead, we have to be careful not to let the dismal Covid mindset bury us in a dark place. Yes, the coronavirus is real, and it is wreaking havoc in our world physically, emotionally and psychologically.

But as with other hardships we’ve faced, our faith enables us to see beyond the challenges, beyond the dark moments.

Let’s remember the words of King David,

“Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.”

In that same psalm, he concludes,

“You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy. So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. LORD, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever.”

As we strive to walk safely through the final weeks of Covid 2020, let’s find time to sing and to dance knowing that Covid will not get the last word.
